The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission is planning to reconstruct and widen the Northeastern Extension from milepost (MP) A44 in Bucks County to MP A57 in Lehigh County. Traveling from south to north, the first section (MP A44 – MP A48) extends from approximately 0.5 miles north of the Quakertown Interchange at Steinsburg Road to approximately nine miles south of Lehigh Valley Interchange, north of Limeport Pike. The second section (MP A48 – MP A53) continues to just south of Lower Macungie Road. The third section (MP A53 – MP A57) ends just north of the Lehigh Valley Interchange.
Preliminary designs for each section began in 2014. Start of final design is TBD.
